Spring Gardens & Champagne Picnic Afternoon Tea
Monday 12th April to Monday 19th April 2021
Following the recent Government announcement on Monday 22nd February which permits outdoor spaces to open from the 12th April, Highclere Castle is delighted to offer a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the Castle Gardens at their leisure whilst enjoying a delicious "Champagne Picnic Afternoon Tea". (Please note that this event does not include access to inside the Castle).
This is the first opportunity of this year for visitors to enjoy the start of spring bulbs and cherry trees in the Highclere Gardens whilst sipping a glass of champagne. There are scattered chairs and tables with beautiful views and gazebos, were there to be any rain.
Why not enjoy the Picnic Afternoon Tea in the very gardens that Matthew and Mary started their romance or, of course, where the Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith) and Mrs Crawley (Penelope Wilton) sat putting the world to rights.
Explore the Monks' Garden and see if you can find the Secret Garden. Walk through the daffodils in the Wood of Goodwill before you find a seat to enjoy the view. Stroll on through the rose arbour and past the cowslips covering the sloping meadow below the Castle.
Ticketholders are welcome to arrive from 10am. The champagne picnic afternoon tea boxes can be collected from 11am onwards (latest time 2pm) The gardens will close at 3.30pm. Our Gift Shop will be open throughout the day.
All Picnic Afternoon Teas are presented in a bespoke Highclere Castle Tea Box (RRP£60 for two people) and include a selection of delicious homemade finger sandwiches, cakes and fruit scones together with a Half Bottle of Highclere Castle, Joseph Perrier Champagne. You are welcome to enjoy a complimentary takeaway cup of tea or coffee from our Coach House during your visit and again this is from where you can collect your Picnic Afternoon Tea Box.
