The Earl and Countess of Carnarvon are delighted to welcome you to their home, the Real Downton Abbey, for a festive evening to celebrate Charles Dickens.
As you are welcomed into the Castle, you will step in to the opulent Library for a Champagne & Canape Reception. The Music Room, The Drawing Room and The Smoking Room will also be open for you to explore along with the opportunity to visit the Egyptian Exhibition which is housed in the Castles atmospheric cellars. The Exhibition tells the story of the discovery of Tutankhamun by the 5th Earl of Carnarvon and Howard Carter.
Highclere guides will be on hand in the Castle State Rooms to answer any questions regarding the history of the building, artwork and furniture, as well as behind the scenes at Downton Abbey.
Following the reception, join us in the Saloon where our magnificent Christmas tree stands and the festive garland cascades down the Oak Staircase to enjoy the story of 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens performed by his Great-Great Grandson Gerald Dickens.
In the interval guest will be welcomed into the State Dining Room for a festive mince pie and a glass of mulled wine.
