In 1793, Colonel Henry Herbert was created the 1st Earl of Carnarvon by King George III. To celebrate, he decided to build an imposing entrance, London Lodge, to his beautiful Park at Highclere. We have now completely restored this building and have refurbished it as a charming Lodge in which to stay for two nights. (It has two wings including one double bedroom).

Grotto Lodge is a charming characterful building, designed by the Victorian architect Thomas Allom and built around 150 years ago. Allom was assistant architect to Sir Charles Barry who built Highclere Castle. It has two double bedrooms, one on each floor above the sitting room and kitchen.

Both Lodges are now available to rent for two nights (London Lodge) or three nights (Grotto Lodge) from the calendars you will find on the following pages. We include some basic shopping on your arrival at either Lodge, so that can enjoy some coffee or tea, breakfast and fruit. Otherwise, they are self catering. You will also find information about local pubs and restaurants, as well as suggestions for other places to visit when you are based here at Highclere.
