10.00 am – The Countess of Carnarvon

The Countess of Carnarvon will open the Highclere Festival Weekend by going behind the scenes of the Real Downton Abbey to touch on the Castle’s history, the landscape, and her published works. Lady Carnarvon is a best-selling author who has penned a diverse range of books, from magnificent historical accounts of Lady Almina and Lady Catherine, to beautiful coffee table books which reveal some of the secrets of Highclere Castle. 
 

 

11.30 am – Professor Andrew Roberts PhD

One of Britain’s premier historians, whose latest book George III - The Life and Reign of Britain’s Most Misunderstood Monarch, explores the fascinating nuances of the reign of Britain’s longest reigning King. Andrew is a fellow of the Royal Societies of Literature History Society, a visiting Professor at the Department of War Studies, Kings College, London as well as a trustee of the National Portrait Gallery. He is an accomplished public speaker, having delivered the White House Lecture, as well as speaking at Oxford, Cambridge, Yale, Princeton and Stanford Universities. He has written outstanding books covering WW2 including Masters and Commanders.


 

 

 

1.30 pm – Robert Hardman

Robert Hardman is a renowned journalist, author, commentator, and presenter best known for his newspaper, television and radio work covering the Royal family over the last 25 years. He is a celebrated author, having published three books concerning the Royal family with his fourth due to be published shortly. He is also a documentary film maker with a documentary tribute to Prince Philip which has already aired on BBC Television.

 

 

 

3.00 pm – Sarah Sands

Sarah Sands is a celebrated journalist and author, whose former roles include editor of the London Evening Standard, editor of The Sunday Telegraph, and editor of the Today programme on BBC Radio 4 from 2017 to 2020. Sarah’s latest book, The Interior Silence follows a journey around the world to find tranquility, quiet the mind, and understand the power of silence. It really is a balm for our troubled times.
