10.00 am – Mark Ellis and Donal Woods in Conversation with John Gundill

Highclere Castle is world renowned as Downton Abbey, so how better to begin the second day of the Highclere Castle Festival than with an insight into what goes on behind the scenes during filming. Mark Ellis, the Downton Abbey supervising location manager, and Donal Woods, the production designer, will join our very own Castle manager John Gundill to discuss the trials and tribulations of film making at the Real Downton Abbey.

 

11.30 am - Nigel Wilson, Legal and General

Nigel Wilson CEO of Legal and General, the UK’s biggest pension investment fund and one of the largest in Europe. He is currently a member of the expert group’s advising on the government’s Social Care Green Paper and the Life Sciences Industrial Strategy Implementation Board. He chairs the Bank of England’s Climate Financial Risk Forum, Innovation Working Group. The last eighteen months and the actuality faced by us all today where ever we live represents  a sharply defined moment in time calling for a turning point.

 

 

1.30 pm – Professor Sir John Irving Bell

Sir John Bell is a Canadian immunologist and geneticist. From 2006 to 2011, he was President of the Academy of Medical Sciences in the UK and since then has held the Regius Professor of Medicine at the University of Oxford. He has led the Vaccine Taskforce and will consider Life Sciences, the extraordinary achievements of the last 18 months and our future need to be impactful in planning and response.    

 

 

 

3.00 pm – Biodiversity Farming and Food

This is the challenge facing us all, the weather, nature and wildlife, our farming and our food. Lord Carnarvon (farmer) , Jason Channell (Managing director of CitiGlobal biodiversity looking at sustainable cites, infrastruture & rural investment)  Harold Makant, (Defra and Natural England)  Tracy , Duchess of Beaufort active in green politics and campaigner for Farms not Factories,   Simon Andrews  (Highclere's farm manager)lead the panel on how we can nurture nature, how we can farm well and eat well.
