VE Day Celebrations. Fri 8th May 2020 (Castle Tours Available)

Friday 8th May 2020

Victory in Europe (VE) Day

At 3pm on 8th May 1945, Prime Minister Winston Churchill announced that the war in Europe had finally come to an end. Millions of people celebrated the news dancing and singing in the streets.

Please join us at Highclere Castle
to commemorate this historic day.

Tour Highclere Castle, listen to a variety of talks in the speakers tent from Colin Bell DFC and Kate Adie CBE amongst others, learn to dance swing with the 'Jazz Age Guys and Girls', sing along to the 1940's trio the 'Vintage Girls' and tap your toes to a 1940s Swing Band.

There will be a vintage car and static aircraft display, fantastic aeroplane flypasts, a 'History of Flight' tent detailing the planes and crew who crashed at Highclere. To keep the children entertained we have a range of activities including a traditional 'Punch and Judy' puppet show and pedal planes. Our Tearooms will be open throughout the day offering a variety of food and drink. We will also have Highclere's very own 'Josephine': the vintage cocktail van!

The Castle will be open for Tours for you to explore at your leisure as well as enjoying living history re-enactments from the Second World War on the front Lawns, including activities for children.
